Sanding away the layers

As a newborn babe we have 17 lucious layers of skin (or something like that). That skin protects us from our environment as well as stretches with us as we grow. Our parents lovingly add lotions and soaps to keep us clean unknowingly killing many layers before we even turn two years old. And yet, we live and grow and change. It an amazing organ, our skin.

When we look at skin in light of our personality, we change as we mature into adults. Some of those changes were wonderful products of our parents' input. Some things were hardened by outside influences (peers, experiences, disappointments, etc). I believe that we can take the next step of willingly peeling off the layers of outside influence through forgiveness.

We can get down to the core of who we were created to be. It is at that core that we discover our personality make-up. We discover the deposits that God lovingly placed within us upon conception. It is there that we uncover the treasures of our giftings. It is there we find peace with ourselves and ultimately with God. Receiving His forgiveness for our own shortcomings and wrong choices bring that peace.

Over the years the layers have been pulled back and with each layer a belief in a lie. As we uncover that which has been hidden in our lives, we begin to live out belief in the Truth. The Truth about ourselves, about God, and about the world around us. Here's to another layer!
